Short thought on Christmas and the Feast of St. Stephen, protomartyr

Why do you think the Church placed the feast of Stephen on the day after we celebrate Christ’s birth?

I think, simply, that Holy Mother Church wants to remind us why Christ became the Incarnate-He was born to die. St. Stephen reminds us of this by showing us Christ, in the reading from Acts, seated at the right hand of God, the Father. If Christ didn’t die, he couldn’t have risen, and St. Stephen would have no reason to die. But because Christ rose, Stephen had some truth to proclaim, and did so fearlessly. He died at the hands of St. Paul, and was an instrument of St. Paul’s own conversion…

  1. I think he stood up for the faith as Jesus proclaimed and was martyed as we are being martyred for standing for faith in today’s world.

What say you???
