Pop quiz for Catholics

Highlight the space between the text and the question mark to get the answer:

The altar servers who process before the lector, extraordinary ministers and priest have names, which means they have duties.

The person who carries the cross is called the crucifer?

The person who carries the incensor is called the thurifer?

The person who carries the candle is called the lucifer?

So the question I have is this…if the Church can use that name in the liturgy, would it be appropriate for someone to name their child that name?  Just kidding…the facts are true, but the conclusion, not so much…

  1. Liked this little pop quiz. And that name? Yeah, I’d have serious reservations about befriending people who named their child Lucifer. But then again, I don’t think most people know why he is named that way. Bet ya anything that most (lukewarm) Catholics don’t know it! 😉

  2. Yeah, you’re right. I asked a canon lawyer about it, though, the head one of our diocese, and he laughed…

  3. I am glad to be educating the faithful. It’s nice to know the technical stuff sometimes. Many people don’t understand why they cross themselves with holy water upon entering a Church (really not supposed to do it afterward…)or why priests kiss the altar after processing up to it. Or why they cross their forehead, lips and heart before hearing the gospel.

    Thanks for dropping by.

What say you???
