Anyone out there watching The Catholicism Project on PBS? Thoughts?

I am reading the book “Catholicism” by Fr. Robert Barron or He really has a way with words.  I ordered the series, which arrived yesterday, and I’m looking forward to getting to know this teaching tool.  This is what the New Evangelization of Popes JPII and Benedict are all about…That’s all I have time to say right now.  I’m sure I’ll be speaking more about it soon.

  1. I too had ordered the series after only 3 episodes aired on our local PBS station here in SW Ohio. I restarted watching it over via the DVDs and have just finished the first three episodes I previously watched.

First of all, this is a mesmerizing series and the emotional aspect of the music and visuals makes one glad to be Catholic. At the same time, Fr. Robert Barron does indeed have a way with words. I loved when he was trying to explain why God allows something like Auschwitz to happen, he gives multiple examples then says “Still not convinced?” And answers “Good!” which were my sentiments as I still felt I needed more, which he then provided.

Good series. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, one will have to go the route of the DVDs to see all ten.

  2. Not necessarily…Depending on where you are, you may find a study series at a parish in your area. Some parishes are showing it without commentary, and that’s a good way to do it. I would recommend that, as a gift to your parish, people can buy a copy of the series, and add it to the library of your parish. What? Parish doesn’t have a library like that???This is a great way to start!

I also liked how he acknowledged that we don’t believe in a God like atheists describe us believing. Fr. Barron is more of a uniter, less of a divider, and I believe he’s done the best job of explaining the faith in modern times. Fr. Corapi did the Catechism series, which is wonderful, but this is for those who don’t have that kind of time. God bless.

What say you???
