Our Lady of the Rosary and the Battle of Lepanto

We Christians have been fighting Muslim invasion for about 1300 years…Witness the Battle of Lepanto. In a four-hour battle between European and Muslim (Turkish) forces, the numerically challenged Europeans defeated the Turks and maintained control of the Mediterranean Sea trade routes, and protecte Europe from further Muslim invasion.
The victory was attributed to Our Lady, as a rosary procession led by Pope Pius V was offered on that day in St. Peter’s Square in Rome for the success of the mission of the Holy League to hold back Muslim forces from overrunning Western Europe.
In thanks, Pope Pius instituted today’s feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (originally Our Lady of Victory) in thanksgiving for the protection of Europe.
