Welcome home, Newt Gingrich

The New York Times Sunday Magazine has a large article about Newt Gingrich. One tasty little tidbit, amidst all the rehashing of his political life, is that he will soon convert to Catholicism.  It’s waaaaay down the page.

He is a baptised Baptist, having been baptised in New Orleans at St. Charles Ave. Baptist Church (a church I know well!) in 1994.

This is not new-I googled it and found an announcement Nov 19, 2008.  His entry into our faith will be Apr 12, 2009.

  1. This is fascinating. My bet was on George W. Bush as the next prominent politician to announce conversion to Catholicism; so I lost a bet on my blog.

Tony Blair, Newt Gingrich, Mark Novak, Laura Ingram, Sam Brownback. There is something about the rigorous logic of Catholicism (and the reduction of anti-Catholicism in world-wide culture) that is attracting all of these intelligent men and women of the political world to the Church.

I still would not bet against W. crossing the Tiber within the next 18 months.

What say you???
